Vintage 1940s Native American squash blossom necklace handcrafted in sterling silver and set with natural Battle Mountain turquoise from the Blue Gem Mine. Every piece of silver is shaped and assembled entirely by hand — no press work or machines used — making this an exceptional and very rare find. This Navajo-style design is a variation often referred to as a “paddle” or “tab-style” squash blossom necklace, distinguished by its numerous flat turquoise settings rather than traditional three-dimensional blossom forms. The necklace features two strands of handmade silver beads, commonly known as Navajo pearls, interspersed with turquoise cabochons. The crescent-shaped pendant, known as a naja, is a traditional Southwestern symbol originally introduced from Spain and Morocco and later adopted by Navajo and other Native American silversmiths. This naja includes a single suspended turquoise dangle at its center. Crafted in sterling silver (commonly .925) and dating from a style prominent between the 1930s and 1960s, squash blossom necklaces are among the most iconic forms of Native American art. Historically, these pieces were sometimes considered pawn jewelry and used as collateral at trading posts. A rare and beautifully handcrafted example of classic Southwestern Native American jewelry.
