This 1970s Navajo Old Pawn squash blossom is a classic example of mid-century Native American silversmithing. The term “Old Pawn” refers to jewelry once used as collateral at trading posts and never redeemed, often representing high-quality heirloom pieces. Crafted in sterling silver, the necklace features a double strand of handmade seamed “Navajo Pearls” (bench beads) and fourteen traditional three-petal blossoms. The central crescent-shaped Naja pendant is set with a single cabochon of Kingman turquoise from Arizona, known for its distinctive blue color often accented by black or silver-toned matrix. The single-stone Naja design reflects a more minimalist and traditional style compared to later multi-stone cluster variations.
